Personal Items Guidelines

The definition for personal items includes things such as a purse or small bag that can fit under the seat in front of you. The bags are not expected to exceed 18″ x 14″ x 8″.

There are certain items that don’t count as personal items or carry-ons.  They include:

  • One diaper bag per child.
  • Soft-sided cooler bag for breast milk.
  • Medical or mobility devices such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines or collapsible walkers.
  • Comfort items such as seat pillows or footrests.

In addition, medical or mobility devices are checked if space is limited. Each traveler is also entitled to one car seat and one stroller which are checked at the gate free.

 

Carry-One Bag Guidelines

As mentioned earlier, you would be allowed one carry-on baggage. This is normally a small suit or bag that can enter the overhead cabin.

It is recommended that carry bags should not exceed 22″ x 14″ x 9″ in size.

Soft garments not larger than 51 inches in length, width, and height can also be carried.

If you have any carry-on that is larger than the allowed size or dimension, you will need to have it checked and where applicable pay the necessary bag fee.

American Airlines Overweight Baggage Fees

If your bag exceeds the weight allowance of 23kg or exceeds the recommended size of 158cm, you will be charged an excess baggage fee depending on your route.  Note that these fees are non-refundable and are charged for one person at each way of the flight.
